A Streetcar Named Desire (9)

Tonight, I have finished reading scene 6 of Streetcar. In this scene Blanche and Mitch are coming back from their date, I guess coming back from a carnival of some sort. There is an awkwardness and it is obvious that Mitch is insecure about the date and that Blanche didn't seem to like it. She explains that she tried to have a good time and that a woman needs to keep control over her emotions. Mitch seems irritated but I'm not really sure. They go into the house and talk about nonsense, like each others weight, and Mitch begins to tell her about his dieing mother and that she wanted to know Blanche's age because she wants Mitch to settle down before she dies. This leads into the moment I have been waiting for when she tell Mitch, and me, about what happened with her husband. Apparently, she fell in deep love with him, but she always thought there was something off about him. And it turns out that she caught him in bed with a man! So there you go, he is gay. Well, she tried to act like it was nothing and all three of them drove out to a club and there was dancing and it was nice until Blanche admits that she saw him, and that he disgusts her. He ends up running out and shooting himself. So Blanche, I'm sure, feels like she is the inciting action of his death. Which it all makes sense why she goes after young men still, and why she is having a hard time getting the feeling of loving someone back, Mitch offers that they need each other, but I'm not sure what she says back. Well, I'll continue reading.
