Tonight I have finished reading The Good Person of Szechwan. And I have totally fell in love with this play. Alright, so I pick up on scene 9, which starts by Shui Ta being fat because he is Shen Teh and she is pregnant, and apparently now Mrs. Shin knows the secret of Shui Ta. I started getting nervous because I was thinking what would happen if she has the baby while being Shui Ta. But whatever, so Sun comes and starts talking to Shui Ta about problems with the factory and that he is going to need more establishments for workers. Shui Ta kind of ignores this and then gets into a fight with Sun about where Shen Teh is and how she is pregnant and Sun heard crying from the back room when Shui Ta went back there. So Sun runs off and gets the police, while Shui Ta is talking to the barber and the land owner of Shen Teh's shop. Shui ta agrees to get rid of Sun and replace him with the barber so that the barber will give him the establishments. So Sun comes back with the policeman and he chechs the back room where him and Sun find Shen Teh's belongings. Shui Ta is accused of murder.
(Thursday's Blog)
This leads into scene 10 where they are all in the courtroom. Shui Ta is constantly being accused of ruining peoples lives and although he has a good explanation for all of it no one is really listening to him. Oh and the three Gods are the judges. So Shui Ta asks everyone to leave the courtroom so that he may make a confession. He confesses that he is Shen Teh and that she couldn't do good without having help from herself, which is her cousin. And that it was literally impossible in the world that everyone lives in. The three Gods act as though she is still a good person and basically end their search there because they have found the good person of Szechwan, and tell her to stay good, Shen Teh is totally confused and let down by this and yells at them to help her be good. They basically say goodbye and leave, and that is the end of the play. This is now my favorite play of all time, although the ending totally depressed me because I want Shen Teh to stay good and to have a happy ending, but I just don't know how she'll achieve that. I wish I could know. But it makes me wonder if there are any truly good people in our world. Well, good play, I really enjoyed it.

The Good Person of Szechwan (9)
Tonight I have finished reading scene 8 of Good Person. Not much happened, but it looks like Shen Teh's cousin, Shui Ta, is doing very well for themselves. He even started a tobacco factory which sounds like it has really taken off. Apparently they were also suing Sun for not paying back the 200 silver dollars to Shen Teh. And then Sun and his mother came and Shui Ta offered to give him a job to pay off the money instead of going to jail. And over a period of three months he has risen to a higher rank above the worker and he looks after them and makes sure they're doing their work. So I will read on to see what happens.

The Good Person of Szechwan (8)
Tonight I have finished reading scene 7 of good person. Alright so things aren't going so well for Shen Teh. I really can't believe that she still loves Sun. Like just get rid of him already. And she's pregnant too! I just want to know how she is going to take care of that baby when its born but as I read on, if all goes as planned then, maybe everything will work out. Shen Teh being nice is really starting to piss me off, like she shouldn't even be her cousin anymore, she shopuld just give it up and start standing up for herself, because if you think about it, the barber giving her that check, is like an angel from heaven. But of course she is too nice to take it, but her cousin isn't. But also Mrs. Shin noticed the cousin's trousers! I was thinking to myself like oh my goodness she is so screwed now, and then when they disappeared when the cousin came back, she noticed too, she is so on to the both of them. And her being the cousin really stepped things up, especially signing that check for 10,000 silver dollars! She would be rich if she got that money, like seriously. Well, I'll continue reading.

The Good Person of Szechwan (7)
Tonight I finished reading scene 6 of Good Person. Alright, I'm really starting to get pissed off now, everyone tramples over Shen Teh, I just don't understand. I hate how the mother and Sun are like planning this little surprise with inviting her cousin, which they don't know its her. So Shen Teh thinks everything is going great until Sun says that Pekin is not off and that he's waiting to get 300 silver dollars from Shui Ta. And as the wine bottle empties everyone leaves because the priest leaves and now the wedding is pretty much called off. Shen Teh, I wish she would just see how horrible he is and get rid of him, and I think she actually will, but I'm not totally sure. And Shen Teh's right, she needs to pay back the old couple, it's just the right thing to do. The three Gods are just I don't even now, it's like they don't understand the pressures of life in the real world, and they just don't understand how no one can be truly good, like they can't even be truly good. Ugh. I will read on and hope for the best.

Good Person of Szechwan (6)
Tonight, I have finished reading scene 5 of Good Person. This is where the cousin comes back to stand up for Shen Teh because of her issue with the money. Even at this point I knew that Shui Ta was not going to be able to fix things. And the way Sun was talking to the cousin about how he was going to leave her there and that she would do whatever he wanted, I thought was just her being totally taken advantage of. And how he got Shui Ta to sell the shop for only 300 silver dollars, which is a complete rip off. And then I started to kind of get hope for Shen Teh when the barber came to the shop to try and help Shen Teh and it was all going so well, until the cousin changed back into Shen Teh and she fell back in love with Sun and ruined the whole plan to help. But I understand how she feels, when you love someone you'll do anything for them. And then the interlude where Shen Teh is talking about how he thinks that there is enough good in him to pat back the old couple, and now she has promised so it makes it worse on her. I honestly don't think he would give up flying for her. But we'll see.
Good Person of Szechwan (5)
Tonight i read scene 5 of good person. I didn't feel that was right of the barber to smash Wang's hand with the curling thing. It sounded like it really hurt too. And then the nerve of the people who witnessed it who wouldn't say anything. I really felt bad for Wang, he was just trying to make a living like anyone else. Well, I thought it was extremely nice for the old couple to lend Shen Teh the six moths rent, but also incredibly stupid to give it to Sun's mother. Well, it sounds like she really loves him, and she is a good person. I don't know how she's going to get the rent and still pay the old couple back. And I see how Brecht is trying to break the illusion of being sucked in and all but I'm still sucked in. Like the way I imagined everything going on, It included the audience so I'm not sure if that's bad or something...? Oh and Shen Teh being the cousin. I knew it already and I'm still trying to figure out how she pulls it off, I'm really looking forward to see how the cousin handles the situation. I still believe that Shen Teh wants to be a good person but can't with the way the economy is, so to me I feel like she is trying to trick everyone by bringing in her cousin who is in a way a different person, so she can still be good, and get around the consequences by using the cousin.

The Good Person of Szechwan (4)
Tonight, I have finished reading the second interlude and finished scene 3. So, now apparently Shen Teh is back and kind of gets into a quick fight with the older prostitute about just stupid stuff. I guess that niece is a prostitute also now since she was there. The guy Sun is trying to hang himslef and Shen Teh said it is because it is a dreary evening. And he doesn't deny it so I guess that could be why. They both start to share stories of how they feel the same, Sun with the airman story and Shen Teh with the Crane story. I guess by the end of scene 3 they start to form a friendship, both of them finding out one is not so bad as each other had though. Wang even shows up and is complaining about how no one will buy his water because it is raining. Shen Teh, being nice as always, buys a cup of water for her her friend Sun which is asleep now. The interlude is involving the Gods coming to visit Wang again to see how Shen Teh is doing. When Wang told them about the Carpenter not being paid in full, they got kind of angry which I thought was not right, becuase first, it was her cousin, and give them a break. How could they be so harsh when it comes to pressure like that. It's like they want her to live out on the street if it means she'll be a good person. Well I'll continue reading.
The Good Person of Szechwan (3)
Tonight, I finished reading an interlude, and scene 2. Well, now the cousin shows up. At first I was wondering if he was as good as a person as Shen Teh. I found out soon enough that, to me, I think he is just as good but he throws a little of elbow grease into it. Like the way he handled the carpenter I just thought was fantastic. I was laughing so hard when the Carpenter just gave up and took that money, and it was even better when he told the people who were staying in the shop to get out. I was really rooting for him, and I got pissed when they said they wouldn't leave. I thought it was so perfect how Shui Ta led the police officer into the shop just as the boy with the stolen foods was coming back with it. I felt bad, but they should have listened to the cousin in the first place. And wow, I can't believe how harsh the proprietress is being. Even with how convicing Shui Ta was. That woman really doesn't have a heart, and then when the officer started trying to help I was really kind of touched that he would do that for the both of them. And oh yeah, where is Shen Teh anyway? Did she get like arrested or something? Haha. Who knows. Well I'll keep reading.
The Good Person of Szechwan (2)
Tonight I finished scene 1 of Good Person. So, Shen Teh has bought up a shop, I'm guessing for over a 1000 silver dollars becuase that's how much she got from the gods and not it is all gone. Shen Teh is a really good person. At least that is what I see. I see a good person trying to help but in the situation of her having no money, it's really hard for her. It was really kind of her to take in ALL of those people. It started to get a little over the top and actually to the point where I saw that the woman was completely taking advantage of her with all these relatives. I now she doesn't mean to, and like she is right, where else could they go. And on top of that I think the Carpenter is a total scammer. He was just looking for extra money. In my opinion, I don't think it was the smartest thing to buy a shop. Shen Teh should have just paid her rent ans continued on with her life. I understand the proprietress needing to know the information, like there's not really anything that could hurt her in that, becuase apparantly she's got this cousin of hers. So yes, I'll continue reading.

The Good Person of Szechwan (1)
Tonight I started reading the play The Good Person of Szechwan. It seems to me that it is really straight forward, so far anyways. Wang the water-seller starts out by waiting for the three gods outside the city by the entrance so he can be the first one to greet them. Well, they finally come and he starts running around looking for a place for the gods to stay. He ends up finding a prostitute name Shen Teh who gives up her "client" and a chance at money for her rent the next morning so that the gods may stay with her. By this time Wang has ran off afraid to come back becuase he could not find Shen Teh, which to me I don't think is very polite even if he couldn't find them a place to stay. One thing that I am wondering is the whole reason why the gods are searching for good people, and Shen Teh is definitely a good person, whether she is a prostitute or not and is was really nice of the gods to pay her for their lodging. Well, I will continue reading.

The House of Bernarda Alba (6)
Tonight, I continued on into act 3. It's actually very calm at this point. I have to hand it to Bernarda that she is handling her daughters pretty well as of right now. Even though they may be freaking out on the inside, at least their acting alright. And when Angustias was talking about how Pepe seems like he's keeping things from her, it is so Adela who is on his mind. It even says that he was after her the year before. I really want to know what Poncia thinks is going to happen. I can pretty much say that it's just going to be this huge fight and just daughters are going to leave and probably things along those lines. Oh and I wonder who came by the back of the house? Well, just going to have to keep reading.
The House of Bernarda Alba (5)
Tonight, I finished reading act 2, and wow. I finally see what is going on in this house after the discussion we had in theatre today. It is a dictatorship by Bernarda. And she is really taking full affect. Also, I think Poncia always getting involved is okay, but I think she makes it worse, because I don't think the daughters' punishment would be that bad with the stolen picture, but then Poncia just had to grind her about everything that is apparently going to happen. And I totally figured out why Pepe is leaving at 4. It's because he is so seeing Adela too. I know it. I wonder what will happen with that. Who will he choose? Oh, and then at the end when the girl was getting dragged out into the street, that was pretty vicious. Like it was wrong of her to kill the baby, but I don't think she deserved death. I also think Adela is pregnant. It's kind of out there but at the end of Act2 when she held her stomach kind of gives me an idea of that. So, I will continue reading.
